I recently had the pleasure of doing a fun one-hour studio session with two brothers, Jack and Tom. Their mum wanted a picture of the boys to give to Dad for his birthday. Lucky for me the brothers got along famously, and weren’t put off by having a camera pointed at them – they were great models and we got a fab range of portraits of them.
In chatting to the boys it turns out that Jack was a keen drummer. I happened to have some drumsticks so we got him to use them in some of the pictures. I love doing little things like this to add context to portraits.
The portraits were done using the three light setup I’ve described previously, using dark navy and white backgrounds. The winning image being framed for Dad is the black & white version of the ‘crossed drumsticks’, which both boys and Mum loved.
