Case study: Blackbay

Christchurch-based international software company Blackbay commissioned me to create a signature photographic image for the reception area of their New Zealand office. After having an in-depth chat to determine the size, media and overall ‘look and feel’ that Blackbay desired, I set about creating a unique fine art piece for them.

I photographed the landscape from Christchurch’s Godley Head, capturing a high-resolution panoramic view with a series of overlapping images. The photos were carefully stitched together and, at Blackbay’s request, a more dramatic sky was shot separately and added in. The final image comprises over 16 individual photos from 4 different shoots, shot at various focal lengths to achieve the final look of a ‘realistic yet otherwordly’ landscape.

I had the final image printed at 900mm wide with archival inks on cotton rag paper – which provides a clarity and depth far beyond traditional photographic paper. The finished framed picture – titled ‘The Black Bay’ – now hangs in Blackbay’s reception of their Christchurch office.

The company was so pleased with the result they ordered a second print to hang in their London office, and one of the Directors purchased a copy to hang in his own home. Blackbay have since licensed the image to use in their promotional materials, and have commissioned me to create further smaller artworks for their offices.
